      Dear Sir;

      Very Interesting blog,
      I have a question that may help me solve a problem that I have with my Folio 1040 G2.
      I had a motherboard shot circuit and the network and sound stopped working. I bought a motherboard in the internet that works perfectly with windows 10, but has a problem, its bios is locked and I cannot update it.
      I think that the solution would be to ‘transplant’ the unlocked Bios from the ‘old’ motherboard to the ‘new’ motherboard.

      Do you think that will it work?

        Why wouldnt you just remove the cmos battery if you have access to the motherboard? Bam no more password.

          Because with the business class HP's (I know Folio 9480m & 9470), the CMOS battery trick effects BIOS password in no way.

    Updating the bios don't remove the password anymore, what a stupidity, when you try to update the bios with a new one, it's ask you the password from the Bios, it's normal as you try to update it ? have you ever try what you suggest ! i have five Elibook 820 G1/G2 and i can't remove the bios password that was putting by and old technician of our firm. Same thing with nive 2560P.

      Since you're on a page to remove the BIOS password then the you won't be able to boot from any port except what's in place one or the first hard drive since boot options are locked by the BIOS password. Try removing all hard drives to bypass it. Burn said software with the instructions above if that's the software you're speaking of. Doing that will put the next in the boot order to go. If you are trying to burn other software use a small program called Rufus.

    I, too, would like to thank you for the clear, concise instructions. I needed the tool but it was, in a word, not intuitive. Your link worked perfectly (though I hadn't realized the download had worked because the website after clicking the link cleared the browser window) and the tool worked flawlessly with your improved instructions.
    This made a thrift-shop-purchased laptop (which I did check with HP as to whether it was on their hot list – it was not) from a doorstop into a usable computer for a foster child! You rock!

    – Use method 4 on my ProBook 6450b laptop, but by mistake I used the option of a 6550b, but I have a problem, every time I start the tingo laptop the following: "Product Information Not Valid".
    – I went to the HP page and downloaded the BIOS for my 6450b, 68CDE Ver.F.60 was installed correctly, but the error continues.
    – Try to inject the information of the Model, Serial, SKU, etc., with all the methods to write in the EEPROM Patched EEprom Utility, but save the new information.
    – Maybe someone has a suggestion please, thank you.
